WHAT'S UP??

Not much this week, I think I hit a wall with romance reading, taking a bit of a break. A few days at least. Plus baseball season has started, and I watch every Red Sox game. Takes up a lot of time!

I will, however, be blogging at Borders True Romance on April 18th

Sunday, my topic will be 'scarred heroes'. Swing by and say hello.

BORDERS TRUE ROMANCE

I have won three books so far this month, just a reminder to drop
by various romance blogs and say hi, you just might win. Check out
some of the links I have, and there are lots more besides that.

Pet peeve, Publishers or blogs that ship only to the US. I have been mailed books from all over the US to my home here in the 'wilds' of Canada, and it is only a few dollars. So I don't see where the cost factor is an issue. Hello? We are on the same continent!

Beware shopping on ebay for this same reason. I looked up second hand romance novels, and people are charging 10.00 or more for one book for shipping to Canada. WHAT!?!? I can tell you it is only 2.00-3.00 to ship a book to Canada. I can't speak for the rest of the world. Talk about padding the sale. I hardly go to ebay now.

And on that curmudgeon note, (I needed that little rant, thank you!!) See you Sunday~

LOL! Karyn I understand that, Ebay has some great deals you can get a book for 1 dollar sometimes less and they still charge an arm and a leg for the shipping even in the US.

I will mark my calendar for the 18th! congrats again 80)

omg, I couldn't agree more about shipping costs at ebay, people are ripping others off, there is no other reason or explanation for it. Mailing a book, cost as you said, 2-3.00, maybe a dollar for the envelope, 10.00 or more is not warranted.
And yeah, a lot of the time Hawaii and Alaska are left off the mailing as well.
See you Sunday~

Karyn, I know of fantastic second-hand bookstore here and they ship books to me for very little in cost. I don't know what it would cost to ship to Canada, but if you want the phone number or address, let me know.

I know what you mean about ebay and Amazon.com. I wanted to get some books for a novel unit for school and could get 15 books for $20, but shipping would have made the total close to $50! Hello!! No, thanks.

I understand your frustration but it has gotten very expensive to mail anything (other than a letter) outside the U.S - even to Canada. At our blog, when we have a winner outside the U.S., we usually offer them a book purchased through The Book Depository (which ships free world-wide). The reason for that is what the U.S. Post Office charges for sending packages outside the country (even to Canada). The last package (envelope) containing two paperbacks that I mailed (the cheapest way) to a winner from Canada was over $10 in postage. Our local postmaster told me the USPS had changed the international mail methods and fees. We used to have a very inexpensive mail method available for Canadian addresses. It has been eliminated. The last package I mailed to a winner in Europe was $14 in postage for a single paperback. For those of us who blog for enjoyment and don't receive income from it, those charges add up fast. I hope we've found a good alternative, by using Book Depository, to make sure our international visitors have equal opportunity to win prizes from our blog.

Thanks for mentioning the book from Christie. I'm going to email her and ask how she sent it. If she can mail it to Canada for $3.05, the rest of us should be able to do the same.

Sometimes our postal system drives me right up the wall!

Btw, I think we all have the right to be curmudgeonly from time to time. :)

Christie told me she sent it first class. My post office here wouldn't let me send my envelope first class. Said they couldn't send first class to Canada anymore. You better believe the postmaster and I are going to have a chat about that!

Karyn, you're right about blogging on different sites and winning. I've just won another book at Jaunty Quills. I am being introduced to so many great authors this way!
