BOOK REVIEW: Lord of Darkness by Elizabeth Hoyt

Lord of Darkness (Maiden Lane, #5)Lord of Darkness by Elizabeth Hoyt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A solid 4 out of 5.

Elizabeth Hoyt is one of my very few auto-buy authors. Stating right up front I really liked this book, however, it did not blow me out of the water as the previous two books in this series.

Three Ghosts of St. Giles? Seems a device to stretch this series into more books, but Elizabeth makes it work and I am all about more books in this series. This book is about Ghost number two, Godric St. John.

Just a side mention on the cover. Godric is thirty-eight with gray at the temples, yet the quite luscious model on the cover looks 25, if that. Hey, publishers! I for one would love to see an older, hunky model with a little gray on the cover!

Back to the story. I did adore Godric, who has a dash of Scarlet Pimpernel, hiding behind spectacles and a gray wig when underneath lurks a muscular hunk who can leap rooftops and fight the evils of St.Giles. He has his past heartache and a current marriage of convenience.

The heroine was a little meh to me. Margaret Reading shows up after two years to in effect, use Godric to get her with child. A little cold and mercenary. Yet, romance blossoms. While the sub-plot was a little to close to the previous book, the growing attraction between Godric and Meggie kept the plot moving along. The staid and proper Godric is a bubbling cauldron of passion, love it! Even throws out a little dirty talk. One thing I do like about Elizabeth Hoyt's books is she doesn't flinch from showing all the heat, lust and desire.

A very good read, I certainly recommend!
