LOVING LOGAN
Return to Welcome #2
by Bonnie Edwards
She lives by three rules: Don’t
date. Don’t sleep with the boss. Don’t believe in happily-ever-after.
Elle Foster left Welcome broke, pregnant, and with a bad-girl rep.
Now, she’s returned to Welcome, still broke, with four children, but has
vowed to never get pregnant again.
Logan Hughes is younger and establishing a new business. Adopted, he
wants nothing more than to have a family of his own. He needs an assistant and Elle
needs the work…
A pirate raider lurks inside Logan and when he lets him loose, even a
determined woman can fall under his spell. And that sexy pirate may make Elle
Foster break all her rules.
Can Logan give up fatherhood for the one woman he wants more than life
itself?
In
Washington State, June could bring the last of the cold Arctic air and some
days the wind held a nasty bite. Today was one of those days. He zipped up his
windbreaker and walked by the trailer and ancient sedan that squatted in Clay’s
driveway. At the far end of the yard, near a cedar hedge that bisected the lot,
Clay’s sister, Elle Foster, or whatever her married name was, shepherded three
children toward the trees. A cute, smiling baby dressed in pink clung to one hip.
On the other hip bounced a diaper bag that slid around with each sway of her
hips.
He
jogged to catch up to them.
Excited
screeches came from a boy and girl who were hopping around like live wires
while a taller boy walked sedately beside Elle. With his hoodie up, it was no
wonder Clay hadn’t recognized his nephew as the kid had peered into the window.
A camera could only see so much.
The baby
on Elle’s hip was the first to see Logan as he approached. She smiled wide and
he could just make out some teeth. Dark-brown eyes glued to him, she bounced
and wriggled on Elle’s hip, as if she couldn’t wait to meet him.
He
smiled back at the pretty curly-haired baby with the Cupid’s bow lips and gave
her a wiggly-fingered wave. She giggled—a high, pure, sound that lit the air
around the happy group. He covered his eyes with his hands and suddenly popped
them wide open. She screeched with laughter.
Peek-a-boo.
He was reduced to peek-a-boo to impress a little lady. He chuckled and lost a
slice of his heart to the cherub.
He
didn’t remember Elle Foster as a beauty back in high school. She’d been
hard-looking as a girl. Her natural black hair had been bleached to white, her
makeup harsh. Tough and gruff and bold and older than him by three years, Elle
had not been a girl for a guy like him. He’d been intrigued and had wondered
what secrets she could reveal because
she’d obviously learned a few things he hadn’t yet.
The
picture she offered today was completely different. She was softer, rounder,
and her voice had gentled over time. Her hair had returned to black and with
the bright-blue eyes he remembered, Elle was a female version of her brother
Clay.
Maybe it was motherhood that had smoothed her
edges. Maybe it was time. Maybe she’d grown up and come to terms with who she
was.

Mercy Talbot left Welcome on a high—a golden-girl beauty queen who stepped
confidently into a bright, exciting future. But that was a long time ago and
that girl is far, far, away. She’s failed in her career, failed in love, failed
her family—and she’s dead broke.
All Mercy wants is to forget her
failures and move forward into a new life with a fresh set of dreams—and get out of Welcome
before it sucks her back in for good. But one look at her precocious niece who
desperately needs her sends Mercy on a
journey into her past that will change everyone’s future.
Clay Foster used to be Welcome’s bad boy, but marriage and his daughter
Dilly transformed him into a devoted father. Widowed now and struggling to be
the daddy his child needs, Clay fights his sudden and unexpected attraction to

girl. Beautiful, talented women like Mercy always have an exit strategy and
when her career beckons, Clay knows she’ll leave him and Dilly flat. His
daughter has already lost her mother and he won’t put his little girl’s heart
on the line.

will she leave the man and child who need her? Will Clay believe in their
future and accept that Mercy has found there’s no place like home?
